Safe Access
According to the most recent data available from the US Census Bureau, the number of disabled Americans is over 37 million. Whether a condition is mental or physical, if medical cannabis can help someone with a disability then it should be both accessible and reliable. State cannabis regulation has been a large step in the right direction, but there’s a long way to go before all those who can benefit from medical cannabis can legally obtain it.
Certain jurisdictions-most recently Washington D.C.-have legalized cannabis possession and use, but not its sale. Elsewhere, in states such as Colorado or Washington, those with a disability may have difficulty traveling to a recreational shop or medical dispensary.
In an effort to emphasize legal limitations, authorities in Washington D.C. have adopted a new motto: ‘Home use. Home grown’. In many cases well outside our nation’s capital, this suggestion offers the best solution for access to safe medicine. A simple in-home garden can provide a steady supply of cannabis and organic methods produce the highest quality yields.
