According to the most recent data available from the US Census Bureau, the number of disabled Americans is over 37 million. Whether a condition is mental or physical, if medical cannabis can help someone with a disability then it should be both accessible and reliable. State cannabis regulation has been a large step in the right direction, but there’s a long way to go before all those who can benefit from medical cannabis can legally obtain it.

Certain jurisdictions-most recently Washington D.C.-have legalized cannabis possession and use, but not its sale. Elsewhere, in states such as Colorado or Washington, those with a disability may have difficulty traveling to a recreational shop or medical dispensary.

In an effort to emphasize legal limitations, authorities in Washington D.C. have adopted a new motto: ‘Home use. Home grown’. In many cases well outside our nation’s capital, this suggestion offers the best solution for access to safe medicine. A simple in-home garden can provide a steady supply of cannabis and organic methods produce the highest quality yields.

Indica and hybrid cannabis varieties are often favored by growers because of shorter flowering times and spatial efficiency. Growing sativa however, presents its own set of unique benefits. Today’s most pure sativa varieties can trace their ancestry to areas of the world have longer growing seasons, such as Thailand and South Africa.

Without the extended flowering time of classics such as Durban Poison, Chocolope, or Super Lemon Haze, the unique soaring sativa effect simply cannot be achieved. When it’s time to harvest, uplifting notes of citrus and pine will make the bit of extra time well worth the wait.

Plants get hungry. They need a nutritious and well-balanced diet to live well, just like us. Similarly, avoiding processed and synthetic food is beneficial for plants as well as humans. Of course cannabis hardly has a choice about where it’s planted, so it’s up to the grower to provide the medium containing the most nutritious components possible.

Cannabis nutrients found in stores are certainly an option and many are effective when applied to specific situations. The cannabis plant however, has a span of nutritive preferences between its two primary subspecies (indica and sativa). Choosing individual components as needed across an entire grow cycle, especially one with different varieties, quickly becomes cumbersome. The best way to achieve the optimal organic harvest is to carefully select a soil mix containing everything cannabis needs from the start.

A few wise words from a growing guru, and dear friend of mine, have echoed with me for years: “Many swear by the KIS method.” His success at the time had me turning red in the face. With no more than a ragtag collection of garden supplies, he always managed to maintain a spectacular carefree grow.

My rival project was outfit with the works: advanced LED lighting panels, digital timers, inline fans, carbon filters, and a soil medium meant to be used in conjunction with a highly specific nutrient regimen. I monitored everything incessantly, imagining myself as some scientific prodigy with every gadget on the market.

I now know the untimely end of that project was inevitable. My convoluted setup collapsed under the weight of its own sophistication. No single error was to blame, rather it was the cascading failures of many unnecessary measures which ultimately doomed my crop. The amount of money I’d spent was heinous, and the result was sadly nonexistent.

Today I look back on that experience and laugh. It took the serendipitous discovery of Ideal 420 Soil to rekindle my gardening motivation, but I’ve since joined the ranks of the many my friend spoke of: those who swear by the Keep-It-Simple method. Ideal 420 Soil is now my blend of choice-producing flowers like it was developed especially for us KIS loyalists.

In certain climates, from Spring to Autumn, it’s possible to grow a bountiful outdoor cannabis crop. The sun is the best light there is, and wide open space gives plants room to branch out. While the potential of an outdoor harvest is great, it’s also limited by growing season and unpredictable environmental conditions.

Greenhouses offer a marginal solution, harnessing sunlight while allowing some degree of climate control. Indoor growing however, is the only way a cannabis to produce in fully controlled conditions.

The indoors provide the best protection from outdoor elements and contaminants. The ability to control light and dark all year long is also key to maintaining a perpetual harvest. Without the advantages of indoor growing, it would be impossible to meet demand in today’s expanding market.

Growing cannabis for the first time it can seem intimidating; there’s a lot to consider. The best approach for a beginner is to keep it simple. Once you’ve got your strain selections ready, they’ll need: a growing medium, nutrition, water, light, air exchange, and periods of total darkness. Luckily, Ideal 420 Soil has taken the guesswork out of the first two. The convenience of a water-only method leaves time to focus on the other essentials. Here are some quick tips on the rest:

The faucet can be a fine option for watering your crop. Tap water isn’t always perfect though, certain additives interfere with microbe activity and hinder growth. Since this isn’t necessarily evident as a deficiency, it often goes unnoticed and plants fall short of their potential. For organic gardens, natural or pure water sources are ideal. Depending on pH, rain and spring water are excellent choices since they contain essential trace elements. Purified sources are also nice for organic grows, the absence of dissolved solids makes distilled or reverse-osmosis water highly absorbable by plants’ roots. Be sure your containers have drainage, and water wisely!

Indoor grows allow environmental conditions to be monitored and controlled. Sunlight is forfeit, so artificial light becomes important. A solid option for a first-time grower is fluorescent lighting, since the equipment is inexpensive and energy efficient. The effect of fluorescent lighting is greatly determined by proximity to the canopy. Compared to standard tube bulbs, compact fluorescent bulbs (CFLs) offer the superior maneuverability necessary to make the most use of their benefit. CFL heat output is so low that often fan leaves will grow right into the spirals. Still, be weary of burns from prolonged exposure.

The best place to hang the lights is in a specialized tent. Grow tents are a prime option for indoor grows, especially smaller projects. They’re designed to allow air exchange through vents, and block out all light during the dark periods necessary for seed-free buds. Quality grow tents maximize light efficiency with an internal reflective surface as well as prevent contamination. Tents aren’t necessary until the flowering phase, so there’s no need to rush out and buy one before there’s something worthy of putting in it. Move at a pace comfortable for you!

If you get these essentials down, and pay close attention to the plants themselves, you’re well on the way to a bountiful harvest. Hydro stores tempt new growers with countless ways to get more sophisticated, including everything from advanced lighting systems to CO2 production units. However, until the basics are covered, it’s useless to waste hard-earned money on added variables (each with its own potential to backfire). Remember that the hard part, determining the best option for a growing medium and nutrient regimen, is already taken care of by Ideal 420 Soil. For the curious new grower, the rest of the home garden experience is freed up for exploration, experimentation, and enjoyment!

The organic section of the modern supermarket is often quite a spectacle: stacked pyramids of ripe tomatoes, piles of plump potatoes, and fresh herbs from sage to summer savory. Just as well, the roses in the aisle next door make a convenient gift for that special someone. These delicious, aromatic, and ornamental favorites are so readily available, they beg the question, why would anyone make the effort to grow them on their own?

The fulfilling experience which comes with do-it-yourself growing is the short answer. That first harvest inspires a sense of achievement, which can’t be felt even while eating the most scrumptious of grocery store meals. It could be a few sprigs of rosemary and thyme for your family’s lamb dinner, grown in a small pot in the window above the kitchen sink. It could also be a cornucopia of fresh produce with all the herbs to match, plucked from the fertile topsoil of your own backyard!

Supermarket savings, the challenge of a new hobby, or the unmatched freshness of the herbs cut just before use, prompt another question in return: why wouldn’t you try DIY Growing? The benefits go well beyond the table. That bouquet of roses hardly ever goes unappreciated, but following up with “from my garden to you,” leaves an impression which store-bought flowers simply can’t. It’s the aim of Ideal 420 Soil to share the joy of natural gardening achievement with our supporters.

Investment in a home garden often provides a nice economic return; many patient hobbyist growers find they’re able to sustain their personal needs by taking considerate care of just a few plants. The rewards of DIY Growing however, are far greater than the harvest. Knowledge gained through nurturing your crop in each stage of growth is incredibly useful for each subsequent project, but the experience itself is invaluable.

As soon as a seed is germinated, a new life is started. When you personally choose the strains, set up the garden, and guide your plants through their very existence… a natural bond forms like from parent to child. Of course your seeds’ genetics play a fundamental role in determining their final result, but so does the environment you provide for their development.

This is why certain growers take such pride in nurturing organic growth. Their gardens become outward expressions of themselves, as curated assortments of varieties brought to fruition by their own hands. The fact a homegrown harvest has the potential to far surpass commercial quality is almost insignificant, compared to the satisfaction the achievement itself provides. No matter how convenient purchasing cannabis ever becomes, DIY Growing will remain an experience for which there is no substitute.

Considering the open availability of cannabis products, now going far beyond the flower, you might be left to wonder: what would even be the point of growing your own? The shift from black market to regulated production has changed the way people think about growing; flowers legally available today, medicinal or recreational, are grown commercially in large-scale warehouses. The varieties chosen are based primarily on aspects such as output capacity and growth speed. As in many cases where quantity is favored, quality is sacrificed.

Even though long-flowering hazes and lower-yield exotic strains are absent from dispensary and recreational shop shelves, it doesn’t mean they’re out of reach. Aside from the ability to choose a seed or clone of any variety you might not find otherwise, cultivating your own cannabis is a simply a rewarding experience in and of itself. Flower you put your own hard work and effort into producing always tastes that much better with a sense of fulfillment. But, is that extra quality and satisfaction really worth trading the ease of going to a shop?

Ideal 420 Soil offers the best solution, because you don’t have to give up convenience for quality. Having your own success with an organic project is not as difficult as it sounds, especially because this product is specifically engineered to provide optimal conditions for cannabis.
